Our school is surrounded by neighborhoods of single family homes. A bird's eye view would include many tree canopied areas. No buildings are over two stories. A mile south or north leads to greenways that include ponds of varied sizes. Roads are two laned and are lined with sidewalks.

What features make our neighborhood a suitable place for birds?

Our neighborhood supports a rich variety of birds. We have up to 15 different birds visiting our classroom feeders. In addition, nearby wetlands are sources for food, water, and shelter for other species. Steps away from our school buildings are woods that provide additional food and shelter.
